Kelsey Funderburgh | Assistant Coach
Former Director of Women's Basketball Operations Kelsey Funderburgh returned to the Mount as an Assistant Coach, starting with the 2020-21 season.
Funderburgh came back to Emmitsburg after a one-year stint as the Director of Basketball Operations for the women's basketball team at Monmouth University. The Hawks qualified for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship, where they pulled off an upset over Iona.
Before her journey to West Long Branch, Funderburgh worked on Marchesano's staff for two seasons. Her duties as DOBO included assisting in scheduling practices, community events, game film and travel arrangements, to name a few. While here, she earned a Master's degree in sports management.
From her first season to her second, the Mount improved by six wins and reached the semifinals of the Northeast Conference (NEC) tournament.
Her transition to assistant coach is a first for Funderburgh in a college setting. One benefit is her prior experience in Emmitsburg, which brings direct knowledge of the current team's juniors and seniors, who were underclassmen during Funderburgh's DOBO tenure.
Marchesano's familiarity with Funderburgh goes back to Walsh University, where Maria was coach and Kelsey was a guard for the Cavaliers. In three seasons at North Canton, Funderburgh was a prolific scorer, finishing with 1,304 points. She also ranked in the top 50 of Division II for three-pointers per game each year. During the duo's time at Walsh, they guided the women's basketball team to a 50-35 record and two semifinal appearances in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament.
A two-time All-GLIAC player for Walsh, Funderburgh graduated with an exercise science degree in 2016.
Danielle Durjan | Assistant Coach
Danielle Durjan joins the Mount on the women's basketball staff ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Durjan comes to Northern Maryland after making her name at three schools in the Baltimore area. This past season, she served as Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Coppin State, guiding the Eagles to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Semifinals for the first time since 2016. Three members of the team received All-MEAC selections, including Defensive Player of the Year Laila Lawrence and Sixth Player of the Year Faith Blackstone. Along the way Coppin State defeated Power 5 foe Pitt, and hosted LSU in a sold-out Physical Education Complex.
Before time on the West end of Baltimore, she worked one season at Morgan State and three years for the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex on the eastern side of the city. The Bears finished with 17 wins in 2022-23, took second in the MEAC, and earned a berth in the WNIT. Four players garnered All-MEAC selections with All-Rookies as well. Essex was a powerhouse in the junior college ranks, going 65-3 in that span and gathering a #3 ranking in the country in 2022. That same year, on top of their second conference title, the team made a trip to the NJCAA Final Four. Three players at Essex received Junior College All-American status, including Patricia Anumgba.
As a player, Durjan competed for Towson, starting at guard, and serving as a senior captain. In two seasons and 62 games she amassed 434 points for the Tigers, along with 191 rebounds and 71 assists. While there Towson won a CAA title and made their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Durjan joins Joe Haigh and Kelsey Funderburgh as coaches on the Mount’s staff. White returns as head coach for the fourth season, after a sixth place Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference finish and a quarterfinal appearance in the conference tournament.
Riley May | Assistant Coach
Riley Maye joins Mount women's basketball as an assistant coach, joining the staff for the 2024-25 season.
Maye comes to Emmitsburg from Harcum College in Bryn Mayr, Pennsylvania, where he worked with the Bears for the past six years. Harcum went 28-6 for the 2023-24 campaign and was ranked as high as third among National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) teams. The Bears went on to win twice at the NJCAA DII Women's Basketball Championship, defeating Lake Land College and Union College. On March 9, they defeated Sullivan County Community College for the DII East District B Championship, aiding his District Coach of the Year selection.
Across his four seasons at the helm, Maye earned a record of 83-31 which also encompasses a 30-4 record in 2022-23. Players under his guidance include Amaris Baker, NJCAA leading scorer, First Team All-American, and Region 19 Player of the Year; five All-Region First Team selections, and a pair of NJCAA All-Tournament honorees. Baker went on to play at Drexel, headlining several players who made the NCAA jump along with Courtney Turner (FIU), Jasmyn Jefferies (Claflin), and Ciara Bailey (Morgan State) to name a few.
Additional stops for Maye are the Philadelphia Belles, an EYBL and National Team allowing for the opportunity to coached more than 30 Division I athletes and three McDonald's All-Americans. Prior to Harcum, he worked for one year with Lehigh men's basketball as their Director of Operations.
As an athlete, he was a four-year player at Norfolk State where he competed in 68 games and scored 174 points for the Spartans. In his senior season, he participated in 33 games with 10 starts while averaging 4.5 points per game.
